LS: Please tell us about Psyop. How did it all begin? How did your career lead you to join Psyop forces?
PSYOP: A group of friends working at MTV, Sci-Fi Channel, Nick, and USA believed that they could do better for themselves… the corporate structure of these large companies limited their creativity, and they wanted to branch out. Thus, PSYOP was born.
LS: What responsibilities does your job title hold?
PSYOP: Each of us has an area of expertise: design, animation, directing, producing, but we all voice our opinions and get involved in all aspects of PSYOP. We each wear multiple hats. We pay the bills, we grow the company, we do a little of everything. Some titles used by actual PSYOP employees: Animator, Flame Artist, Producer, Designer, Killer, Adverb, Motivational Speaker.
LS: Where did you study? Do you believe in the importance of formal education in design?
PSYOP: We come from a diverse background - we’ve studied locally at the School of Visual Arts, NYU, Parson’s… we’ve studied abroad in Germany, England, Australia, etc. Our great diversity is one of our strengths - each of us looks at things a little differently and has a unique perspective thanks to our varying backgrounds and studies. If we could just figure out how to understand each other we are sure we could be quite successful.

LS: Can you take us through your typical working day?
PSYOP: A typical day at PSYOP? There’s no such thing. Each day is incredibly varied as we’re constantly working on new jobs and meeting new people and clients. However, chances are, some animation and design will get done. Magic happens daily! Around 3pm we feed our unicorns.
LS: What do you look for when it comes to inspiration?
PSYOP: All sorts of things inspire us - our neighborhood, art, movies, good living, philosophy, politics, our dogs, chickpeas, etc. There’s no one thing that we look towards because inspiration is everywhere. But the unicorns help.
LS: What are your favourite movie and movie genre? Do you go to watch movies all together? Are you rather reading-book or watching-tv person?
PSYOP: We like cool stuff. We find neat things online, on TV, in films, in books, etc. It doesn’t matter what medium it’s produced in so long as something catches our attention and makes us take note and talk. Since none of us can actually read that pretty much limits us to pictures and symbols. Spiderman was very cool.
LS: Do you have your favourite restaurant in New York where you all hang out?
